The IBJJF London Open 2025 took place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2025 and it attracted some of the best grapplers from all across Europe. There were several big names competing but it was Tarik Hopstock who got the most attention, as he left the event with four gold medals. Not only did he win the gi and no gi middleweight divisions but he also won both absolute divisions as well, despite facing several bigger opponents. Charlie Adorian and Catriel Rodrigues won gold in the gi at heavyweight and super-heavyweight respectively, but they both ended up with bronze medals in the absolute behind Hopstock.
Rodrigues did win another gold medal though, as he beat Thomas Bracher in the final of a tough no gi super-heavyweight division. Bracher had a good run in the absolute too, but he had to settle for another silver medal behind Hopstock. The women’s divisions had plenty of highlights too, particularly in the gi at middleweight where the podium featured two ADCC veterans. Julia Maele won gold and Sula-Mae Lowenthal took home the silver medal there, while the default bronze medal went to top Irish talent Rosa Walsh. Maele and Walsh also respectively got silver and bronze in the absolute, while Laura Sieradzan won gold.
Abbie O’Toole also made an appearance in the gi at featherweight and won gold there, while the same weight class in no gi was won by Fiona Middleton. The biggest female winner in the no gi brackets on the second day of the event was Rosa Walsh though, as she returned and earned a gold medal in the absolute after being given a default gold at middleweight. There were also some exciting prospects competing at the lower belt levels at the IBJJF London Open 2025 too, with Injana Goodman in particularly putting on an excellent performance and leaving with two gold medals at brown belt.
