The ADCC Montreal Open 2024 took place on April 20th, 2024 and it attracted some of the best competitors from all around Canada to compete. It showcased the very best submission grapplers that the country has to offer who aren’t quite at the highest level of the sport globally, and the vast majority of the medalists were Canadian. Only 10 out of the 39 medals in advanced divisions went to competitors of a different nationality and all but 2 of them were representing gyms based in Canada regardless. The tournament took place just days before the year anniversary of the first ever ADCC Open in Canada, so it was a nice moment for the promotion to enjoy too.
It’s been just a little over two months since the last ADCC Open tournament in Canada too, as that took place in Toronto in February. Although there wasn’t anywhere near as many high-level competitors stepping on the mats this time around, it was still great to see the best in Canada battling it out. There were no double champions unfortunately, although Malik Belhaj earned silver medals in both the under 83kg division and the absolute. Claire Mckenzie impressed as well, winning the under 70kg division shortly before she also took home a silver medal in the absolute. Another notable moment came in the men’s under 76kg division, as Ethan Crelinsten’s younger brother Liam stood on top of the podium.
