Tommy Langaker recently shared some criticism of FloGrappling, highlighting what he beleives to be biased commentary and coverage of some of the sport’s biggest events. Langaker has been one of the top competitors in Europe for several years so naturally he was watching the IBJJF European Championship 2025, and that was the event that prompted him to make his grievance public. Although FloGrappling is one of the biggest businesses in the sport with exclusive streaming rights to ADCC and all of the major IBJJF events, this is far from the first time that they have come under fire for their business practices.
Craig Jones has exposed some of their practices in the past, and it isn’t just competitors that have taken issue with the streaming platform either. In one of the biggest pieces of legal news from the Jiu-Jitsu world, parent company FloSports settled a class action lawsuit with many of their customers. Most recently they came under fire from Jones again, although this time it was from his perspective as a new grappling promoter instead. They hit the Craig Jones Invitational live YouTube stream with a copyright claim, only undoing it after Jones threatened them with direct competition for all of their future events.
Langaker raised some good points during his criticism of FloGrappling too, starting with the commentary of the light-featherweight final between Diogo Reis and Shoya Ishiguro. Reis was the favorite to win the division prior to the tournament and he did make good on that promise, but Langaker pointed out that the commentary team neglected the skills that Ishiguro showed in the match. As he said, praising the lesser-known competitor is how you build them up and in turn help the development of the sport overall. Langaker also took issue with the language used to describe Kennedy Maciel beating Cole Abate in the featherweight division, that seemed to downplay Maciel’s status in the sport.
