The US election has been full of surprises for everyone, and it’s just given us one for the MMA community as Tito Ortiz has just won a seat on the City Council of Huntington Beach. He has been an open Conservative for quite some time now and has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump since before he was originally elected. Tito Ortiz was one of three newly elected City Council members that will serve Huntington Beach in the coming years, with Democrats Dan Kalmick and Nathalie Moser joining him.

Ortiz has previously expressed an interest in a career in law enforcement and has run his campaign on the promise to “make Huntington Beach safe again”. This was a statement that managed to earn the former UFC Light-Heavyweight World Champion an impressive amount of the popular vote at just under 12%. Given Ortiz’s combat sports experience and willingness to support law enforcement, it’ll be interesting to see if he gets into contact with Rener Gracie and uses his plan for national police reform in California.

The news was reported by several major outlets, with some noting the unusual career-trajectory of Tito Ortiz. He started out with involvement in gangs and time spent in Juvenile hall before discovering a love for Wrestling and excelling at the sport. Ortiz quickly followed this by battling with Methamphetamine addiction as a teenager before getting back on the right track again and going to college to continue wrestling. From there, Ortiz developed into the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” he has become known as and earned an ADCC bronze medal and a UFC Championship.

After a tumultuous and sometimes violent relationship with adult film-star Jenna Jameson that included some run-ins with the law and a minor acting career, Ortiz finds himself here as a politician and force for good in his home of Huntington Beach.
