Mica Galvao came into the Middleweight grand prix at Third Coast Grappling 7 riding a huge wave of momentum after his flawless victory over Oliver Taza at Who’s Number One just the previous night, and he continued his dominance again. This time he had a lot more work cut out for him as he had to defeat three consecutive elite grapplers in a row in order to take home the $15,000 prize, but he managed to put on an even better show than the night before. He finished all three of his opponents with completely different submissions, showing the true depth and variety that the teenager possesses in his game.

First up was ADCC veteran John Combs, who Galvao managed to submit with a Guillotine early on in the match. At the same time, NCAA All-American Pat Downey was submitted by Pedro Marinho, who exploited the wrestler’s most obvious weakness by attacking the legs and exposing his heel for the finish. The semi-finals then saw Galvao come up against the vastly more experienced Pedro Rocha and he showcased his leglock game, something he isn’t particularly known for, and managed to secure the heelhook to finish. Marinho on the other hand had a much harder time in overcoming Roberto Jimenez as the two battled it out for the entire regulation time period before entering overtime, where Marinho managed to emerge victorious under the promotion’s golden score rules.

The final then saw Galvao secure a straight armlock against Marinho and end his night with a perfect 100% finish-rate across all three of his matches. All-in-all the event proved to be an exciting one, as each of the superfight matches sprinkled throughout the card also delivered nonstop action. It was Galvao’s performance that proved to be the highlight of the night however, especially considering the fact that he was one of three late-notice replacements after Oliver Taza, William Tackett, and Tye Ruotolo withdrew from the event.
