The AIGA Champions League Brazil Qualifier 2024 took place across May 23rd to 25th, 2024 and Team Kasai all delivered some brilliant results in order to earn an invite to the grand finale. They were always the favorites going into the tournament thanks to their incredible lineup of elite competitors, but they did have plenty of tough opposition to get through before they could make it to the next stage. There were top grapplers representing the other teams in the tournament too and Team Kasai would need to get through 3 battles in order to guarantee their place alongside the winners of the first qualifying tournament in Turkey, Team Euro Trash.
Not only did they do just that, but they put in an even more impressive performance than Team Euro Trash did last time around. They won every single match against Team Demian Maia by submission before going 7-0 with only one win by points against Andinos Grappling Team in the semi-final, and registering another a clean-sweep of 7 submissions in the final against Vouk Elite. Everyone in the team was flawless from start to finish and Roberto Jimenez being the only man to win a match on points, although he was equally dominant in all 3 of his matches.
Sebastian Rodriguez and Renato Canuto shared their responsibilities in their weight class, securing 1 and 2 submissions respectively in their appearances. Andrew Tackett and Pedro Marinho were simply incredible, as they both managed to submit all three of their opponents inside just a single round. The lightest weight classes were run by Edwin ‘Junny’ Ocasio, Dorian Olivarez, and Fabricio Andrey; as they also submitted all three of their opponents and only a handful made it out of the first round. Team Kasai had 21 matches in total with 21 wins and 20 submissions, proving that they will be a real force to be reckoned with in the final next year.
