Read moreDiego ‘Pato’ Oliveira is one of the top BJJ competitors in the world in the lighter weight classes, and his nickname is the Portuguese word for Duck. he was given the nickname by his training partners in his youth, when he was learning the sport through a social project led by Arley Silva. Oliveira reached the rank of green belt there as a teenager before moving to Nabil JJ when the social project ceased operations. After being promoted to blue belt there, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to train under Cicero Costha and he remained there throughout the rest of his colored belt career. Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira has won IBJJF gi and no gi world championships since receiving his black belt from Costha in 2019, and has represented some of the biggest teams in the sport along the way.
