Submission Hunter Pro 90 took place on April 28th, 2024 and there were several very rare submission taking place throughout the card’s results. There were several fun brown belt and black belt superfights taking place but the main attraction was the stacked under 170lbs tournament that was spread throughout the card. The opening round of that tournament kicked things off and immediately there were several unique submission finishes that fans don’t get to see very often. Oliver Taza won his first match of the night by locking up a slick one-handed rear-naked choke and the very next match saw Carlos Henrique launch into a beautiful flying triangle choke before transitioning into the teepee choke to get the finish.

Gavin Corbe was the other big name competing in the tournament and he also put on a show in his opening round match, but for a different reason. He and Josh Leonard couldn’t be separated in their 7-minute regulation time period and went into the 4-minute overtime round, putting on a high pace throughout both periods. Corbe did find the heel hook finish in the end, but he did it in dramatic fashion with just 7 seconds left on the clock in the overtime round. He was up against Henrique in the second round and he got his second finish of the night, while Taza got his second finish of the night against Matheus Chedid.

This set up a fantastic final match between Taza and Corbe, with both men giving everything they had to deliver the results and win the $5,000 grand prize at Submission Hunter Pro 90. At one point Corbe was able to get sight of Taza’s back in a standing position and he attempted to take it, but Taza rolled through and countered by entering the saddle. From there he got to work on applying the lateral kneebar pressure and it appeared as though Corbe might have suffered an injury just before he tapped. Taza won the tournament and it was revealed in his post-match interview that he earned a place on the upcoming UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 card as a result.
