Spokane Submission Series 3 took place on September 28th, 2024 and the promotion became one of just a handful of events to use the pit format. After the initial success of the trend-setting Pit Submission Series and the incredible Craig Jones Invitational, many fans and competitors are starting to really buy into the idea of using a pit. This event showed exactly why that is, as there was plenty of action throughout the card. One thing that Spokane Submission Series did do slightly differently is that they also introduced gi matches, a brand new element of grappling matches in the pit that hasn’t been done before.
The preliminary card was exciting enough but the main card really kicked things into high gear, particularly when Luis Magana locked up a brutal kimura from a reverse triangle choke. Wes Cooper and Mark Hamel were up immediately after Magana and they put on the most exciting match of the night, trading offense non-stop until Cooper was able to secure the heel hook to win. Some big names stepped on the mats as the night progressed too, with Zack Schneider hitting a neck crank from back control that made everyone in the crowd wince in pain and Alex Larmey earning a big win with an arm-triangle choke.
Veteran black belt Tanner Weisgram also made an appearance and put in a dominant performance to win his gi match with a cross collar choke from mount. That led straight into UFC fighter Juliana Miller taking on Jasmin Steiner, and she was equally impressive when she got the tap with a triangle choke. Ryan Mulvihill got a solid win on points in the co-main event and immediately after that, Helena Crevar brought the show home with another display of incredible grappling. Crevar hunted the submission against Sarah Paul relentlessly until she was finally able to finish her with an Aoki lock, winning the under 145lbs title at Spokane Submission Series 3.
