Sarah Galvao, Andre and Angelica Galvao’s daughter, is already carrying on her family’s legacy by winning double gold at the IBJJF World Championship 2023 and being promoted to purple belt on the podium after doing so. Naturally she was promoted by her parents as they have served as her coaches throughout her entire career, and it was undoubtedly a nice moment for everyone involved. She will undoubtedly be one of the top female competitors in the sport and it turns out that her father is stepping out of the competitive limelight right on time to allow her to take his place.
Andre Galvao reached the highest levels of the sport and put on epic performances across decades to break records and earn his place among the greatest grapplers of all time. While he was doing all of that, he was also building a team of elite competitors at ATOS who would go on to win the most prestigious tournaments on the planet time and time again. Within that team he’s also been bringing his daughter Sarah along in her BJJ journey through the children’s belt ranks and into the Juvenile divisions, where she currently stands.
At the IBJJF World Championship 2023, Sarah Galvao reached the highest point of her career so far when she won gold in both the medium-heavyweight and absolute division at Juvenile 2 blue belt. The Juveniles at ATOS won the team trophy collectively and although Sarah Galvao was a big part of that, she wasn’t the only one rewarded with a purple belt for her efforts. Jadeya Reber won gold at middleweight and Lillian Marchand won gold at heavyweight along with a silver in the absolute, with both young women being promoted along with their teammate Galvao.
Andre and Angelica Galvao shared the news that their daughter Sarah had won double gold at the IBJJF World Championship and was promoted to purple belt in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
