Rener Gracie has just announced on his official Instagram account that he has tested positive for Coronavirus for a second time, after generating several negative test results in between. The news comes as Rener was preparing to fly to Abu Dhabi to corner Brian Ortega in his upcoming fight against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. Unfortunately, Ortega will now be forced to compete without the aid of his head BJJ coach and the man who awarded him with his black belt.
According to Rener Gracie, both he and his wife tested positive for Coronavirus around a month ago. Since then, he’s taken two tests for the virus that have both come back as negative and shown that he was no longer infected. His most recent fourth test was taken in Las Vegas as he was preparing to board the plane to Abu Dhabi to corner Ortega and as it came back positive, he had no choice but to turn around and head back home to California.
He has been told that this second positive result is most likely as a result of residual traces of his original infection and he is currently completely asymptomatic. However, he was advised that should he choose to board the plane he will get tested upon landing in Abu Dhabi as well. If that test also returns a positive result, he would be forced to quarantine for two weeks in UAE and would be unable to corner Ortega anyway, as his fight against Korean Zombie takes place on October 17th.
