Rener Gracie has just announced the arrival of his latest project: ‘Gracie Medical Defense’. It’s the latest in a long line of business ventures that the veteran grappler has pursued over the last few years, with most of them focusing on adapting BJJ for specific scenarios. The most notable exceptions to that are his Quikflip backpack and Sleeperhold neck pillows, both of which are more general products. Although he did have some success in the mainstream world with both of those products; the modern BJJ community will mostly recognise Rener from the launch of Gracie University or his famous Gracie Combatives course.
Rener was also a fantastic competitor at one point in the past and even faced some legends of the sport like Cassio Werneck. His competitive career didn’t last very long at all, but he also came up during a time when there wasn’t any real money to be made from being a professional grappler. He also never went into the Gracie family business of being an MMA fighter either, even though that was an avenue that could allow grapplers to make a living at the time. Rener chose to focus on teaching instead and has since gone on to bring a number of people up to the rank of black belt, including elite MMA fighter Brian Ortega.
One of the biggest focuses that Rener has had in recent years has been his drive for national police reform. It’s certainly a noble goal, as it should increase the standard of policing across the US and decrease the number of injuries sustained by both officers and suspects alike. His ‘Gracie Survival Tactics’ program has since been approved for use in the majority of States, so now he’s turned his attention to a similar area with different needs. The ‘Gracie Medical Defense’ program is something that Rener has developed in order to help healthcare professionals restrain patients without causing or sustaining any harm.
Rener Gracie announced that he was going to reveal Gracie Medical Defense in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
