Ralph Gracie has reportedly been released from prison early after being sentenced to serve six months on January 20th, 2021, due to the infamous assault committed on Flavio Almeida at the 2018 IBJJF no gi World Championships. The trial was the final point of an incredibly lengthy legal battle on behalf of Almeida as both he and Gracie Barra representatives had fought to make sure that justice was served after the assault was committed and video footage of it went viral.
BJJEE was first to report the news as they managed to speak directly to Renzo Gracie about his brother Ralph, and he revealed that he had now been released from prison much earlier than his original sentence had indicated. The exact circumstances surrounding his release are not yet known, but Renzo reportedly claimed that Ralph had been a model inmate during his time in prison and had even taught Jiu-Jitsu to some of the guards of the facility.
Flavio Almeida has yet to make any comment on the news but it also seems unlikely that he will do so. Throughout the entire ordeal, the multiple-time IBJJF World Championship medalist remained relatively quiet and chose to stay out of the spotlight. What will be interesting now, is to see what Ralph or any of his brothers have to say on the issue when they choose to discuss his release from prison to the wider public themselves.
