Quintet have just signed an exclusive streaming deal with FloGrappling ahead of their next event, scheduled for September 10th, 2023. The change is pretty big news for the landscape of professional grappling and the ongoing battle between streaming service, as Quintet have historically only ever broadcast their events on UFC Fight Pass until now. It’s unclear what has prompted the change but it’s a huge win for FloGrappling to bring a major promotion like Quintet into their schedule, further increasing their monopoly over showing the sport’s biggest events.
Some of the biggest names in the sport hold Quintet events in high regard, and fans all around the world enjoy their unique take on the sport. Not only were they among the first few events to attempt to make team grappling work, but Kazushi Sakuraba and his colleagues created the most popular team grappling ruleset in the sport as a result. That first event was back in 2018 and things picked up speed over the next few years, with 11 Quintet events taking place from then until halfway through 2021.
That’s when Quintet suddenly disappeared, leaving fans wondering what had happened to one of the world’s most exciting grappling promotions. Then, earlier this year and after two years of silence, Sakuraba announced that Quintet 4 was scheduled for September 10th, 2023. That alone was enough to get fans eagerly awaiting the promotion’s return, but the best was yet to come. Shortly after it was announced, the full lineup of the four elite teams competing at Quintet 4 was confirmed.
There was a few changes to the lineup when New Wave Jiu-Jitsu withdrew from the event but with B-Team stepping into replace them, things looked even better than they were before. It’s unlikely that the move to FloGrappling instead of UFC Fight Pass makes any difference to the production of Quintet 4, as that has always been handled by an independent team. That means that everything that made the promotion special should remain the same, and all that’s changing is where it’s available to watch.
