Quintet is coming back once again and it’s coming to Dubai for the very first time when Quintet 5 goes down on October 23rd, 2025. This will be the first time that Kazushi Sakuraba’s grappling promotion has staged an event in over two years, but it’s not the only high-profile event they’re going to be a part of in 2025. They also announced a co-promotional effort for CJI 2, as the biggest no gi grappling tournament this year will be borrowing their ruleset. That will be one of the most popular team grappling events ever as well, but Quintet is the original promotion that created the format.
The majority of Quintet events have taken place in Japan, with two taking place in Las Vegas instead. The move to Dubai is a big one and it makes sense, as the UAE is a massive market for grappling and some major events like ADCC and the AJP Tour both originate there. There’s no news yet on what teams will be competing at Quintet 5 but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Dubai fielding a team in the tournament. Whatever teams enter the bracket, there’s sure to be some high-profile competitors in the lineup and Sakuraba usually competes in some way too.
Quintet 4 was one of the most-watched events of 2023 and Not only did Sakuraba lead a team of his own, but major teams like 10th Planet and B-Team Jiu-Jitsu competed too. There was plenty of memorable moments and the format often leads to crazy matches that fans wouldn’t get to see anywhere else. There’s going to be more of that when Quintet 5 goes down but there’s quite a few exciting teams in the Craig Jones Invitational 2 lineup that are getting their first major taste of team grappling there, so it’ll be interesting to see if any of them want to have another run at it later on in the year.
