The IBJJF Salvador Fall Open 2024 took place over May 11th and 12th, 2024 and there were several entertaining moments over the course of the weekend. The most notable moment of the event came in the final of the gi heavyweight division, when Leonardo Lara got a huge win over Vital Neto in order to take home the gold medal. That wasn’t the only silver medal that Neto won that day though, as he returned in the absolute division later on and stood in the second spot on the podium then too. It was Servio Tulio who beat him for that gold medal, and that made him a double champion after he won the medium-heavyweight division earlier on.
Tulio wasn’t the only person to win two gold medals on the first day, as Amanda Magda was given a default gold at heavyweight before beating some tough opposition to win the absolute division. There were plenty of big names in the other weight classes too, with Alexandre De Jesus winning the super-heavyweight division and Andressa Tolentino winning the women’s light-featherweight division. One of the most impressive performances of the gi divisions on the first day came from Israel Almeida, as he won the featherweight division and really challenged himself to take home a bronze medal in the absolute division.
The no gi divisions took place on the second day of the IBJJF Salvador Fall Open 2024 and another pair of double champions were crowned, but both of them won their respective weight classes by default. Leonardo Goncalves won the men’s no gi absolute division after he was the only person to compete at super-heavyweight, while the women’s version of the same bracket was won by Eliza Vasconcelos after she was given her default medal at super-heavyweight. There were busy brackets in most of the divisions really, so there was plenty of action all round and some great submission finishes.
