PGF World is coming back once again for another week packed with high-level grappling, as Season 8 will take place in March 2025. It’ll be another action-packed series of days, with more high-level grappling matches than most people could actually watch crammed into less than a week. The opening draft and regular season of PGF World Season 8 will be available to watch completely free on the promotion’s official YouTube channel and once the winning team has been determined, the playoff grand finale at the end of the week where the individual champion is crowned will be available to watch on UFC Fight Pass.
The latest edition of the event will be taking place at 155lbs, the first time in over two years that it’s been contested at this weight. The last time PGF did feature 155lbs competitors was back in 2022 at Season 4 and that was won by New Wave Jiu-Jitsu prospect Reese LaFever. There’s no news yet on whether LaFever will be coming back in an attempt to defend his title but it does seem likely, especially now that the promotion has been able to increase their total prize money for each season to $100,000. The reigning champion would normally be considered a favorite but that increase in prize money has also seen a huge increase in the level of competition, so it definitely won’t be easy for him.
There will almost certainly be a handful of ADCC veterans and other elite competitors making an appearance when PGF World Season 8 begins in March 2025, but those who have to earn their way onto the show can’t be overlooked either. The promotion is hosting four different qualifier tournaments during the lead into Season 8; scheduled for January 11th, 18th, 25th and February 8th. Although registration is still open, there’s already some big names signed up to compete in those qualifying tournaments like Emilio Hernandez and Jordan Holy. There’s a potentially interesting storyline emerging too, as the very first qualifier includes LaFever’s own teammate Landon Elmore.
