PGF World Season 7 has reached the halfway point as day 2 ends on November 5th, 2024 and the league table is starting to take proper shape now. Although certain competitors might run away with it right from the start, the majority of those making it to the playoffs will take more than a single day to establish themselves. That’s where the second day comes into it, as now the battle for playoff positions really starts to heat up. It all started two days ago with the promotion’s draft and with the four teams of five elite competitors decided, now fans start to see which of the four legendary coaches made the best picks.
PGF World Season 7 Day 2 Recap
There weren’t quite as many submission finishes as there was on the opening day, but there was still plenty of points put on the board in the end. The main difference was that the points were a little more spread out this time around, as only one competitor was able to get two submission finishes on day 2. Although that led to a ton of movement in the individual competitors’ league table, one team really pulled away with a strong lead. More than half of the submission wins came from New Hope Regeneration and Pedro Sauer will definitely be happy with the huge gap between him and the other teams now.
Top Performers
It might seem unusual to say that the top performer of day 2 was actually submitted himself, but it’s undeniable that Brad Schneider had the biggest impact on the PGF World Season 7 league today. He was submitted twice on the first day and after another loss on his first match of day 2, things looked pretty bleak for Schneider. He rallied with a fantastic performance against Nathan Haddad, submitting him with an armbar in under a minute to earn a bonus point. He closed the show in the final match of the night too, rolling for a kimura against Drew Dyer before transitioning to the legs and locking up a kneebar just 6 seconds after the first minute was over.
Other Winners
Marcin Maciulewicz and Ryan Aitken were the two top performers from the first day of PGF World Season 7 and although they slowed down a little, they both added to their tally on day 2. Maciulewicz hit the first submission of the night, finishing Davis Asare with a heel hook on his previously injured ankle and forcing him to withdraw for at least the rest of the day. Aitken’s only submission was also a heel hook, and his finish of Dory Aoun was one of the best of the night. Aitken got in to position very early but Aoun defended well and unfortunately, he missed out on an additional bonus point by just 24 seconds.
Elijah Carlton also continued his run to the playoffs by submitting Adam Bradley by causing some damage with a heel hook attempt early on, forcing Bradley to withdraw due to injury just after the halfway point of the match. Two of the biggest names in the lineup managed to get off the mark on day 2 as well, as ADCC veterans Kyle Boehm and Chris Wojcik each got submission wins. Boehm was the man who submitted Schneider today, and he did so with a heel hook in just 32 seconds to earn a bonus point. Wojcik took more time to find his finish, but his brutal Aoki lock against Aoun looked incredibly tight.
The other two submissions coming on day 2 of PGF World Season 7 were both chokes, meaning that the men who landed them shot up in the rankings. Ernesto Rivera had the biggest impact thanks to a lightning-quick triangle choke that earned him a bonus point, building on his good work from day 1 to put him in a strong position. Travis Thomas got off the mark by diving on an anaconda choke from top position and switching to the D’arce choke for the finish against Kris Olivo. Although this was Thomas’ first submission win of the event, being on the top-performing team has helped him rise up the rankings with several additional team points.
