Ocean BJJ have just announced a major sponsorship deal with Kingz Kimonos for their upcoming events. The promotion is currently gearing up for their 2025 grand finale and that will be the first event of the new partnership. Kingz is one of the oldest brands in the sport and have been active since 2011, enjoying many partnerships with elite competitors and major promotions over the years. This is another step in that long history, as Ocean BJJ has making waves in the professional no gi grappling world since they first started and they have some huge plans for the future as well.
They put together several Trials events last year leading up to their 2024 grand finale and that was an excellent show, featuring several elite grapplers and some wild upsets. Some of the biggest names in Europe made the journey to Italy to compete in the event and it was broadcast live on FloGrappling, another major partnership that Ocean BJJ have pinned down. This year has been all about growth for them though, and they announced some pretty big changes for this season too. The first change was to the ruleset itself, as Ocean BJJ announced that they were opening it up to allow more techniques like Kani Basami and smothering.
That proved to be a great decision, as their Trials events for 2025 attracted some serious talent and resulted in some entertaining battles. The new ruleset wasn’t the only thing that brought hundreds of grapplers out though, as they also announced a huge prize pool for their Trials winners that grew based on the number of entrants. Now that the Trials are done, they’ve also started to announce their invited competitors too. The reigning champions Tarik Hopstock, Luccas Lira, and Gamila Kanew will all be returning to defend their titles but they have even bigger competition this time around from multiple ADCC veterans.
