Nicky Rodriguez is taking on a pretty unusual challenge at Sprawl In The Burgh 2 on October 20th, 2023, as he’ll be facing 3 grapplers one after the other. This isn’t a regular tournament, it’s a series of matches that Rodriguez will be having without any significant break in between. He’ll be taking on Jake Lowry, Cody Gamble, and Zack Humbertson; three of the best grapplers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The full match will take place over the course of 24 minutes, as each man will get 8 minutes in the cage against Rodriguez.
They are guaranteed that much time against Rodriguez too, as a submission will not end the round and all three rounds will last the full time. While Rodriguez is vastly more experienced at the highest levels of the sport, it’s still going to be tough to take on completely fresh challengers after extended matches with other competitors immediately beforehand. By the time his third and final opponent makes his way into the cage, Rodriguez will have spent 16 minutes working against the other two.
It’s an interesting idea and it’s a huge opportunity for all three of the men competing against Rodriguez, as any one of the mill be able to make a big impact by submitting the two-time ADCC silver medalist. Even if they don’t finish him, putting in a good performance and not getting submitted in 8 minutes against a top competitor like Rodriguez is still a huge achievement. There’s a series of other matches booked for Sprawl In The Burgh 2 as well, and some of the best and most exciting competitors in the local area will be putting on a show for the fans in attendance.
