Nate Diaz just put on a fantastic performance in his boxing rematch with Jorge Masvidal on July 6th, 2024, winning the fight by majority decision in the end. In classic Diaz style, he started off fairly evenly with Masvidal before really shining and putting in some great work in the later rounds. Although both men are known as professional MMA fighters first and foremost, they were able to use their vast striking experience to look comfortable in what was only their second boxing match each. This also helped to settle some of the bad blood between them, something that was on full display when a brawl broke out at a press conference leading up to the fight.
Diaz and Masvidal first met back at UFC 244 in 2019, when the promotion first created the BMF title for the eventual winner. After three incredibly tough rounds, doctors intervened to call a stop to the fight due to a cut that Diaz had suffered and it was ruled a TKO win for Masvidal. Now almost 5 years later, Diaz has finally been able to exact his revenge and level the score against Masvidal even if it is under a different ruleset this time around. It was a far longer fight this time around as they went through all ten rounds and with each one lasting three minutes, it meant that they fought for twice as long as their first meeting.
It was never going to be total domination from either Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal, but the boxing rematch was incredibly close and nobody knew for certain which way the decision would go. Several rounds could have gone either way and fans were no doubt incredibly happy with what they got, as both men put on a high pace from start to finish and they were willing to trade shots plenty of times. Diaz won the majority decision when the judge’s scorecards were read, with two judges giving him all of the last five rounds and one giving him four of them.
