In a strange turn of events, Mikey Musumeci will now be leaving the United States of America in order to train at Evolve MMA in Singapore. The multiple-time IBJJF world champion is only just a couple of days removed from his debut for Asian combat sports promotion ONE Championship where he won $50,000 for his fantastic submission win over Masakazu Imanari and it seems as though he’s happy enough to stay. It would no doubt make things more difficult for Musumeci to compete in the USA but he also signed a long-term contract with ONE Championship and they have already paid him handsomely so it might actually be easier for him to stay there.

He will be returning to the USA at least once this year however, as Musumeci was given one of several surprise invites to compete at the 2022 ADCC world championships in September. He will be competing in the 66kg division of the world’s most prestigious no gi submission wrestling tournament and although he will have plenty of tough opposition in his bracket, he remains one of the favourites to bring home the gold medal.

Mikey Musumeci announced the news that he would be moving to Singapore in order to start training at Evolve MMA in a recent post to his official Instagram account:

Founder of both ONE Championship and Evolve MMA, Chatri Sityodtong, also announced the news and gave the following message to Mikey Musumeci and his fans:

“Please join me in welcoming current 5x Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt World Champion Mikey Musumeci to EVOLVE! He has moved permanently to Singapore to train, compete, and teach out of EVOLVE.

I trained with Mikey today and I was completely blown away by his game. Of course, he is one of the greatest and most technical Black Belt World Champions on the planet today. I will say that his fundamentals and technical details are truly extraordinary, but his greatest strength is his brilliant genius mind. He taught me so many fascinating concepts and simple details that left me feeling both confused and enlightened.

Most importantly though, Mikey is a wonderful human being with a beautiful heart of gold. He is already a little brother to me!

Welcome to Singapore, Mikey!”
