Mikey Musumeci and 10th Planet’s Geo Martinez are starting to have a pretty public rivalry after the pair’s match at the recent Road to ADCC superfight event. This marked the first time that Musumeci and Martinez had met on the mats, with Musumeci putting on a solid performance from start to finish and managing to secure the victory 6-0 on points. After the match, Musumeci immediately approached his opponent and they began exchanging heated words, before 10th Planet head coach Eddie Bravo also got confronted by a clearly agitated Musumeci.
In the post-match interview, Mikey Musumeci was asked to explain the interaction between him and Geo Martinez:
“He was talking crap the whole freaking fight, so amateur. We’re setting an example for the next generation That’s ridiculous how he’s behaving. I hung out with him during a tournament. I thought we were friends. Then he changed his persona. I guess he cares more about followers than how he acts with people. Ridiculous.”
Despite being on the losing end of the match and having clearly angered Musumeci in the process, Martinez doubled down after the event:
“I find it funny, he tries to act like he’s Brazilian but he’s not. He’s from New Jersey.”
Not only that, but he also challenged his opponent to a Combat Jiu-Jitsu match that Eddie Bravo would no doubt be eager to have at one of his world championship events. As Martinez pointed out, if Musumeci doesn’t want to try CJJ, it’s highly likely that the pair will both be competing in the 66kg category of ADCC 2022 and as two of the best competitors in that weightclass, their second meeting seems almost inevitable.
