The main card of UFC Vegas 31 saw three elite grapplers put on exciting and dominant performances to showcase some of the best talent that the promotion has on the ground. First up was Rodolfo Vieira, the ADCC and IBJJF world champion who was looking to get back on the right track after registering the first loss of his professional MMA career at UFC 258. Although he was submitted in that fight, it was the result of his cardio failing him in the first round and he explained in the build-up to this event that he had fixed that issue and was eager to prove it.

Vieira came up against Duston Stolzfus and took his back early in the third round, to secure the choke and get the finish. Another ADCC competitor was competing in the very next fight, as former KSW double-champion Mateusz Gamrot received a big step up in competition against Jeremy Stephens. He made incredibly quick work of the UFC veteran by locking up a brutal Kimura to force the tap just a few seconds over a minute into the fight. The main event then saw Islam Makhachev extend his win-streak to 8 and his record to a phenomenal 20-1 when he submitted Thiago Moses with a choke halfway through the fourth round.
