Mica Galvao has just revealed that he now has a timeline in mind for his MMA debut, and it shouldn’t be too far away if everything goes to plan. It’s been in the works for quite some time already and although he has nothing booked, he’s been working on his MMA skills with elite fighters for several years. Obviously he’s already one of the best grapplers in the world so he doesn’t need much work there, and his style actually suits MMA very well as it is. Galvao generally fights for takedowns even against good wrestlers and has actually competed in wrestling before.
All he’d really need to do is develop his striking to a good level and he could do very well in MMA, and he’s likely already been working on that to a certain degree. Galvao was actually going to make his transition to MMA earlier than this but he signed an exclusive contract with FloGrappling instead. Now he’s announced that he’s finally going to make the move right around the time that his contract with them ends:
“When? In two years, but only then.“
Although he still intends to embark upon an MMA career, Galvao has made another change to his plans outside the timescale. Galvao has historically competed in the welterweight division during his Jiu-Jitsu career but he has chosen to test himself at middleweight and in absolute divisions too. When it comes to MMA though, he plans to take it in the other direction:
”I thought 77, but now I’m seeing the size of this beast, huh? I think it’ll have to be 70… The biggest advantage is because of the reach, man. The reach of this guy is something monstrous.”
