Mica Galvao has just announced that he will be delaying his MMA debut slightly after deciding to sign a new two-year contract with FloGrappling. Galvao has been planning on eventually making the transition to MMA for quite some time now, and he’s even been spending time training with some of the best fighters in the world. He’s obviously been focused on his Jiu-Jitsu career first and foremost though, as he’s been working hard to win everything he can. After becoming the youngest person to ever win a super grand slam last year, there actually isn’t much left for Galvao to do in the sport.
Galvao seems to recognise that himself, as he’s been talking about the transition to MMA more than ever before. In fact, he finished the year by saying that he would not be competing under rulesets with points involved any more in order to prepare for his debut. There’s got to be a lot of fans out there who are itching to see him display his striking skills and test himself in MMA, but they’re going to have to wait a little longer. He’s just recommitted to FloGrappling, where he’s the reigning welterweight champion after winning the title at Who’s Number One 20: Night Of Champions back in 2023.
Mica Galvao announced the news that he had decided to delay his MMA debut to sign a FloGrappling contract in a recent post to his official Instagram account. He also shared the following statement in the comments:
”I still have more history to make in Jiu-Jitsu. From the very start of my career, every decision I made was based on the values I learned from my parents. And at this important moment, it couldn’t be any different. After winning every possible title in Jiu-Jitsu, my heart was drawn to testing my Jiu-Jitsu in MMA. I had already decided to make my debut at Shooto Brasil, the event led by Master (Andre) Dede Pederneiras. But in conversations with my parents, I realized that I still have a lot to contribute to Jiu-Jitsu before making that transition.”
”My father believes I am still young for MMA and that, with the platform I have today, I can do even mire for the growth of the sport. My mother also made it clear she’s not ready to see me taking punches just yet – and that definitely influenced my decision. That’s why I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed a contract with FloGrappling for the next two years! I will continue competing in gi and no gi Jiu-Jitsu, defending my titles, and moving uo to new weight classes in search of bigger challenges.”
“This contract is not just about me – it’s about elevating Jiu-Jitsu worldwide. I want to help FloGrappling expand and create even better opportunities for athletes everywhere. This will be my mission for the next two years. Thank you to everyone who has always supported me. The future is now – and I still have so much more to give to Jiu-Jitsu!”
