The IBJJF Floripa Winter Open 2023 took place on August 12th and 13th, 2023 and it attracted some of the best competitors from all around Brazil, including Mica Galvao. He emerged victorious in a tough middleweight division on both days, winning gold in the gi and in the no gi edition of the division. The lightweight division on the first day was won by Alex Sodre shortly before that and Alex Munis won gold at heavyweight later on in the day. His brother Anderson Munis was also in attendance at the event and although he had to settle for a silver medal at super-heavyweight, he came back with a vengeance later on to win gold in the absolute.
It was Harryson Pereira who beat Munis in the final of the super-heavyweight division, and he took a very well-deserved gold medal from that weight class. Vinicius Liberati won gold in the ultra-heavyweight division but he fell just short of doubling his tally, taking home a silver medal in the absolute. There were some great competitors on the second day of the IBJJF Floripa Winter Open 2023 too, with Elioenai Braz winning gold medals in both the super-heavyweight and the absolute division. Antonio de Padua won the ultra-heavyweight division and also stood on the podium of the absolute, but he had to settle for a bronze medal there.
There were several top female competitors on both days of the tournament too, particularly in the gi medium-heavyweight division. That was where Thalyta Silva won a gold medal, defeating Aurelie Le Vern in the final match of the bracket. Sabatha Lais stood in third place on the podium too, and she returned later on to win a silver medal in the absolute division. Yara Soares was the woman who managed to win gold in the absolute division, shortly after taking a default medal in her weight class. There were less women competing on the second day, although Jaine Fragoso stood out in winning the lightweight division.
