Melqui Galvao just arranged a benefit seminar that took place the day before the first ADCC Open in Brazil in 2023, with the intention of gathering food donations to help the local community. He conducted the seminar with the help of two of the top competitors that train under him, Diogo Reis and his son Mica Galvao, teaching some of the techniques that have helped them both get all the way to the podium of ADCC 2022 last year. This is just the latest in a number of moves that Galvao has made to both help the needy in Brazil, but also help the development of Jiu-Jitsu in the country as well.
His gym is notorious for taking children from the worst conditions in Brazil and giving them the tools necessary to become world champions, helping to provide a better life for them in the future. While this has been the case for his gym in Manaus for quite some time, he’s also opened a second gym in Sao Paulo with the aim of extending his reach further. It’ll be interesting to see if any of the athletes attending the seminar with him and his two students are able to execute those techniques at the ADCC Brazil Open, and if Reis and Galvao are entering the tournament for additional practice.
Melqui Galvao shared the news that he had managed to raise 1000kg of food at the benefit seminar he organized in a recent post to his official Instagram account. The original post was in Portuguese but the rough translation can be found below:
“1000 KILOS of FOOD at our BENEFIT seminar! Happy to be able to give back what life has given us. ADCC Brazil will happen tomorrow. If you’re nearby, be sure to follow this great event live.”
The ADCC Brazil organization putting together the ADCC Open on the following day also shared the news on Instagram and sent the following message of thanks to three instructors (also translated from Portuguese):
“Thanks Diogo Reis, Mica Galvao, Melqui Galvao for this amazing seminar. You are the idols of the world. Together we are stronger. Your actions will help many families. Let’s give it all to the next one.”
