ONE Fight Night 24 took place on August 2nd, 2024 and ONE Championship crowned two new champions in the night’s results. Jarred Brooks got a huge submission win in the main event to win the promotion’s interim flyweight MMA title, but the fight of most interest to grappling fans was undoubtedly the co-main event. Danielle Kelly was set to defend her atomweight submission grappling title against Mayssa Bastos, and the two women were set to put on an absolute war over the space of ten minutes. They are both at the very top of their weight class and given that they are known for fast-paced styles, fans were in for a treat.
It’s been almost a year since Kelly won the inaugural women’s atomweight title and this was set to be her first title-defense, so there was obviously a lot on the line for her. Bastos on the other hand won her ONE Championship debut just a few months ago and her time on the IBJJF circuit this year has been almost perfect. The match went all the way to the end of regulation time and both women scored a catch for deep heel hook attempts, so the score was tied. Mayssa Bastos was awarded the decision win over Danielle Kelly thanks in part to her relentless attacks from the bottom throughout the match, and she left as the new champion.
