Mason Fowler will now be facing David Garmo in the co-main event of UFC BJJ 2 on July 31st, 2025, and the promotion’s light-heavyweight title is on the line. The promotion is wasting absolutely no time in crowning it’s inaugural champions, as three titles were won in their debut event. This is the only vacant title up for grabs in their second event, but the main event will feature their first ever title-defense too. That’s where Andrew Tackett will attempt to defend his welterweight title against Renato Canuto, a match that was actually made immediately after he won the belt when Canuto stepped on the mat for a face-off.
William Tackett will also be making his debut against Kyle Chambers, but there’s no title on the line in that match. There’s no official news on the rest of the card just yet, but a handful of grapplers like Raquel Canuto and Kennedy Maciel have announced that they’ll be competing on the card. With the deepest pockets in the game and an apparent desire to take over the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, it’ll be interesting to see what other matches UFC BJJ can come up with. They have existing relationships with plenty of elite competitors through their work as UFC Fight Pass Invitational too, so there’s no shortage of options for them.
Mason Fowler and David Garmo are excellent choices for their first light-heavyweight title-fight too, as both men are among the best in the world at that weight. Fowler is a two-time ADCC veteran with wins over the biggest names in the sport like Craig Jones, and Garmo has established himself as a top contender in recent years too. He has had some great runs at both ADCC Trials and several IBJJF no gi majors, including becoming just the second Americsn black belt to win gold at the IBJJF No Gi Brasileiro this year. Both men are well-rounded and hunt for the finish in all areas, so this should produce some fireworks.
