Mark Zuckerberg has just hit a huge speedbump while training for his debut MMA fight, as he has suffered an ACL injury that required surgery to fix. Although Zuckerberg is far from the first celebrity to fall in love with BJJ and MMA, it seems as though he’s taking it significantly more seriously than most of them do. Many celebrities who discover martial arts choose to avoid hard sparring but not only does Zuckerberg clearly get plenty of tough rounds in, he’s also throwing himself into the competitive aspect of combat sports as well. He’s already tested himself in his first BJJ tournament as a white belt, but an MMA fight is a huge step up from that experience.
Since finding some success in his first competitive experience, he’s actually been promoted to BJJ blue belt as well. If winning at white belt wasn’t enough of a clear signal that he’s earned that belt promotion, he’s actually training under one of the most well-respected coaches in the game. He was promoted to blue belt by Dave Camarillo, a veteran grappler and fantastic instructor who recently received his 5th degree BJJ black belt. It’s no surprise that he’s been able to develop into a competent grappler really, considering he’s got such a great coach guiding him.
Zuckerberg undoubtedly has some great training partners too, and he’s been getting in extra sessions with some of the best grapplers on the planet like Mikey Musumeci. Unfortunately it’s probably going to be quite some time before Mark Zuckerberg recovers from his ACL surgery and makes his MMA debut, assuming he does continue with that plan after suffering such a serious injury. Injuries are common in combat sports of course and Zuckerberg seems to be taking it all in his stride, but it’s not uncommon to see martial artists rethink their priorities when they experience a major setback.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the news that he had recently undergone ACL surgery after suffering an injury while training for his MMA debut in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
