Another superb match has been added to the lineup for UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 on December 10th, 2023, as Luiza Monteiro and Elisabeth Clay will be meeting on the mats. Both women are among the best female BJJ competitors on the planet and this match will undoubtedly produce some fireworks on the mats. This isn’t actually the first time that they have met on the mats either, as Monteiro was one of Clay’s first opponents after she was promoted to black belt in 2020.
Although Clay was a top prospect during her journey through the colored belt ranks, she was still the underdog when she came up against Monteiro at Fight 2 Win 149. She was still very new to the highest level of competition, whereas Monteiro had already won two IBJJF World Championships and three IBJJF No Gi World Championships. Despite having significantly less experience competing against the best grapplers on the planet, Clay pulled off a huge upset at F2W 149 and managed to submit Monteiro with a heel hook. Although it’s only been a few years since that match took place, a lot has changed for both women since then.
Perhaps most notably, Elisabeth Clay is on her way to becoming just as accomplished as Luiza Monteiro and now has three IBJJF No Gi World Championship gold medals of her own as well. It’ll be interesting to see how they stack up against each other now, and if Monteiro can get revenge in the rematch. This isn’t the only rematch at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 either, as Nicky Rodriguez will also be facing Yuri Simoes again. These are just two of the exciting matches booked for the event and there should be plenty of action from start to finish, but the biggest attraction is of course Gordon Ryan v Mason Fowler in the main event.
