Main Character Jiu-Jitsu 7: Miami Invasion is set for June 7th, 2025 and the promotion has put together an excellent light-heavyweight title-fight between Luccas Lira and Achilles Rocha as the main event. MCJJ have historically held their events in Austin, Texas but now they’re stepping out of their home-state for the first time. In honor of that big move, it looks like they’re planning in setting up an equally big event. Both men in the headline match have received invites to ADCC in the past and they likely have a huge amount of experience with one another, as they were part of the same team for quite some time.
They represented Fight Sports together for many years until Lira left the team just over two years ago, but Rocha still continues to represent them to this day. Given that they spent so long training in the same affiliation, Lira and Rocha must have spent a fair amount of time training together too. Although they should both have a good amount of inside knowledge on each other, a lot has changed since then too. Both men have been promoted to black belt since then and now have a lot of experience competing at the highest level of the sport, so they will have developed whole new skillsets in that time.
Lira had to be replaced at the last minute at ADCC 2022 due to visa issues and although he wasn’t able to test himself on the biggest stage of the sport, this match serves as a great proxy for that. Rocha had three solid runs at ADCC Trials between 2023 and 2024, impressing matchmakers enough to be given invite to compete at ADCC 2024 in the process. He went out in the opening round there but a win over Rocha would show that Lira can be a threat at ADCC 2026, while this will be a good opportunity for Rocha to pressure-test his skills against an elite opponent before the next cycle of ADCC Trials begins.
