Lachlan Giles is returning for CJI 2 and this time he will be serving as the head coach for Team Misfits Australasia. The news was announced by Craig Jones himself during a recent update for the event, where he also reconfirmed a few social media statements he’s made recently. He previously announced that New Wave Jiu-Jitsu were going to be competing, and now he’s given a longer statement to guarantee their appearance. He also shared a little bit more information about how the Team Misfits element of CJI 2 will work; where three teams will be invited representing the Americas, Europe, and Australasia.
This is the perfect way to use Giles’ talents as well, as he coached one of the finalists of the inaugural CJI event and he’s widely regarded as one of the best Jiu-Jitsu minds in the world. Jones knows better than anyone just how good Giles is:
“The coach of that team will be the greatest Jiu-Jitsu athlete to ever come out of Australasia, and the greatest coach, and probably the highest selling BJJ Fanatics instructor from that region. The great Lachlan Giles.”
The job that Lachlan Giles has in front of him isn’t just coaching at CJI 2 though, as he’ll also be responsible for picking the competitors for Team Misfits Australasia as well. There’s two CJI veterans that Jones wants to see returning, but Giles has an interesting idea for how to fill the other spots:
“Obviously we want Levi (Jones-Leary), we want (Lucas) Kanard in, but he can do whatever the f**k he wants really. He still needs to get our approval but within reason, he can do whatever the f**k he wants. And I believe what he wants to do is a Trials event, he wants to make guys earn those positions. I love that. I love that for my own entertainment. I’ll be there on the side watching these guys fight for a shot on Lachlan Giles’ team. Lachlan Giles doesn’t need to do a CJI rules qualifier, this is a tournament that targets submission hunters. So he can run an event however he deems fit, it’s gonna find the guys best suited to chasing submissions.”
Craig Jones announced the news that Lachlan Giles was going to serve as the coach for Team Misfits Australasia in a recent video that was uploaded to the official B-Team Jiu-Jitsu YouTube channel:
