Kron Gracie recently spoke out about Gordon Ryan and his stance on PEDs in particular. It’s undoubtedly one of the most controversial things about Ryan’s career and it’s something that he’s become even more open about in recent years. He’s not only been honest about the fact that he uses PEDs but he’s even gone so far as to explain the reasons why and the timeline of his usage. Although it’s refreshing to hear an elite competitor being so upfront about the topic for once, it’s also caused Ryan to clash with some of the other big names in the sport like Mikey Musumeci.
Kron Gracie is the latest grappler to take issue with the stance on PEDs that Gordon Ryan has, and it seems as though it’s one particular statement that he’s taken issue with. He shared a clip from the video where Ryan explains his reasons for using PEDs and included the following statement:
“It’s illegal in every sport, only in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA people look past this and think it’s ok?! Lance Armstrong lost everything and he’s just riding bikes.”
This is clearly in reference to one of the most common points that Ryan makes, one that also echoed by others in the sport. Because the vast majority of major promotions like ADCC and Who’s Number One don’t test their competitors, Ryan argues that this means that PEDs are legal in Jiu-Jitsu. The only exception that he grants is for IBJJF competition because that organization does test the winners of both the gi and no gi world championships, but it did not conduct testing at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship during the year that Ryan won it.
