Kody Steele has now earned himself a UFC contract after he extended his perfect MMA career with another win against a tough opponent on Dana White’s Contender Series on October 8th, 2024. It was another finish as well, bringing Steele’s career record up to 7-0 with one submissions and four knockouts. Steele has fantastic wrestling and has been a top BJJ competitor for quite some time now, but his transition to MMA has come up with an incredible display of striking proficiency. Rather than relying on his elite grappling to wear his opponents down, he’s been perfectly happy to show off his striking and finish fights on the feet.
Steele was 2-0 as an amateur MMA fighter before turning professional, and he finished both of those fights with strikes too. He only took his first professional fight towards the end of 2022 and he has quickly racked up a series of impressive wins, but it was his sixth win that started to attract the attention of the biggest promotion in the world. Although the UFC had already started to take notice of Steele’s potential, he still had to earn his way there just like many hundreds of fighters have done before. That’s when he was given the opportunity to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series and although a win doesn’t guarantee a contract, his exciting style made it incredibly likely.
Things weren’t quite so straightforward for Steele though, as the first opponent he was given for his DWCS debut actually withdrew just one hour before the fight. It was an unfortunate setback that was completely out of Steele’s control, so UFC president Dana White guaranteed that he would still get his opportunity at a later date. That opportunity came on the most recent edition of DWCS on October 8th, 2024 and he grabbed it with both hands. Kody Steele out-struck Chasen Blair over the course of two rounds before eventually finishing him with a body shot, earning that coveted UFC contract.
