Khamzat Chimaev will be taking on the toughest test of his young career at UFC 273 when he steps into the octagon against UFC Welterweight title contender and three-time IBJJF world champion Gilbert Burns. Chimaev has quickly become a fan-favorite for the UFC and it’s no surprise considering the fact that he’s steamrolled every single opponent he’s faced in increasingly impressive fashion. Burns is another type of fight altogether though as the elite grappler is firmly placed at the very top of the Welterweight division and has only lost one fight in the last four years, for the division’s title.

Chimaev has already shown that he has fantastic wrestling time and time again, and has even been seen competing against fellow UFC veterans in wrestling matches as well. It’s this dominance that led to manybeing surprised when Chimaev was actually awarded with his first colored belt in BJJ after already impressing fans around the world with his skills. He was promoted by his BJJ coach, Alan ‘Finfou’ Nascimento and he continues to train under him. The BJJ veteran has apparently now given Khamzat Chimaev the challenge of becoming the first man to submit Gilbert Burns in MMA competition and has promised him a purple belt if he’s able to do so.

Chimaev is actually the first to bring up his coach:

“My coach Alan has beaten Gilbert Burns three times at BJJ tournaments as far as I can remember.”

The interviewer that Khamat Chimaev is speaking to then points out that fighting Gilbert Burns is not just another day at the office:

“So he (Alan Nascimento) must realize that Gilbert is a way better fighter than all the previous ones you have fought?”

“Yeah. I think Alan knows how good Burns is, but he also knows what level I am on.”

The interview with Khamzat Chimaev where he talks about his upcoming fight against Gilbert Burns was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of Smesh Bros:
