Kairos Pro Jiu-Jitsu is a brand new promotion and they’re getting ready for their first event on May 7th, 2023, which is set to feature an excellent lineup. The UK-based promotion has put together a grand prix tournament in the women’s under 66kg division with a title and a £2,000 grand prize on the line. While the women competing are all incredibly talented grapplers, one of the most interesting aspects of the event is the ruleset.
The tournament will actually use a round-robin format instead of a straight knockout, and there will be a coin-toss prior to each match to determine whether it will take place in the gi or in no gi. This makes for some very interesting outcomes, as it’s entirely possible that luck could favor one woman over her opponent. That’s where the round-robin format comes into play though, because each woman will have just as many chances of success as the rest of the field and the eventual winner will have to put in the best performance overall.
ADCC European Trials winner Julia Maele immediately stands out as one of the favourites to win the tournament, but she does have plenty of tough opposition. Ashley Bendle will be coming in fresh off a title-winning performance at Enyo Grappling 2, while Gabi Schuck and Vanessa English are two exciting competitors that will be difficult to beat for anyone.
While these four women are the most likely winners, the other 6 women will no doubt be eager to make a huge statement by taking out some top competitors at the event. Astrid Scholin, Amanda Pamela Nicole, Hayley Carter, Violet Bennet, Selma Vik, and Sula-Mae Loewenthal are all incredibly talented grapplers in their own right and it’ll be fun to see who emerges victorious from the lineup when the dust settles on the first Kairos Pro Jiu-Jitsu event on May 7th, 2023.
The full lineup for the very first Kairos Pro Jiu-Jitsu event was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
