JitsCast #38 features multiple-time IBJJF and ADCC world champion Ffion Davies ahead of the grand opening of ARMA BJJ, where she will be taking up the role of head coach. Davies has had incredible success at the highest level of the sport for many years now and she’s established herself as one of the best competitors to ever come out of the UK or even Europe. She’s also travelled around the world to learn from some truly excellent coaches in different countries, moving from Wales to Ireland and eventually over to New York to train under the legendary JT Torres at Essential Jiu-Jitsu.
Jits Magazine spoke to Davies about her experience moving around to different locations, and she explained what she gained from each one. She also spoke about the first form of grappling she did as a child, Judo, and her decision to pursue MMA as a teenager. Davies was honest in her assessment of her skills when it comes to striking and MMA, and she was clear about where she stands on the idea of doing MMA today. Davies then went on to speak about her recent struggles and decision to step away from competing briefly, along with some of the criticism she has faced.
Davies also talked about the biggest recent development in her career, her signing a contract with UFC BJJ and becoming the head coach of the brand new ARMA BJJ facility in London. She spoke in great depth about the approach she is going to take to coaching, exactly what her role will look like alongside the other elite coaches at the academy, and why it’s so important to her to be a good instructor. Davies then finished off by sharing some of her goals for the future, including a return to ADCC and a winning a UFC BJJ world title.
