JitsCast #31 features one of the biggest prodigies in Jiu-Jitsu right now, Helena Crevar. She has already established herself as one of the best female grapplers in the world despite being just 18 years old, with her crowning achievement so far coming at ADCC 2024. She made her debut at the most prestigious no gi grappling tournament in the world when she was still just a purple belt and managed to come away with a silver medal in the under 65kg division. She had to beat two elite grapplers to deliver that result and even managed to make history with that performance too.
Crevar became the first woman to submit an opponent with a heel hook at the ADCC world championship and she also became the youngest person to reach the podium there as well. She has been on the radar for anyone following the sport for a few years already, beating adult competitors for quite some time. Even though she’s been dominant at the lower levels, not many people predicted she would do so well at ADCC. Obviously that has earned her other big opportunities as well, and she’s also become the reigning lightweight champion at Polaris and featherweight champion at Who’s Number One.
We spoke to Crevar about her rapid rise through the ranks and how she reached such a high level so quickly, along with what it was like to compete at ADCC as a teenager. She also spoke about her decision to join New Wave Jiu-Jitsu, and how she believes it has helped her career. Crevar then spoke about her upcoming appearance at Polaris later this month, where she will be the team captain for North America in the first ever female Polaris Squads. She then shared a little bit more information about her plans for the future; which include further Polaris title-defenses, a second title in the promotion, and an attempt at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship at the end of the year.
