JitsCast #26 features one of the biggest stars in the sport right now, Tye Ruotolo. Not only were Tye and his brother Kade Ruotolo among the first child prodigies in the sport, they have also become some of the best competitors in the world. Ruotolo already made history in 2022 by becoming the youngest IBJJF world champion ever and he has built on that legacy even further in the years since. He’s known as a very exciting competitor and he’s made a home for himself at ONE Championship, where he currently rules the welterweight division as the promotion’s submission grappling world champion.
Ruotolo became the inaugural champion by beating Magomed Abdulkadirov at ONE Fight Night 16 back at the end of 2023 and he’s been the champion ever since. Ruotolo has not been content with sticking to the welterweight division during his time at ONE though, and he’s had a number of superfights at other weights. He’s currently preparing for his latest title-defense against one of the best in the world, Dante Leon, at ONE Fight Night 32. We wanted to speak to Ruotolo about his upcoming match with Leon and get his thoughts on the match, along with a little reflection on his career with ONE so far.
Ruotolo also talked about what it was like being a child prodigy and training with his brother Kade throughout his entire career. He also opened up about his goals for the next few years in both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, including his plans to make his MMA debut later this year. He then picked out a few matches that he would like to have at some point soon, from rematches with Mica Galvao and Nicholas Meregali all the way to a huge match with Gordon Ryan. Ruotolo also talked about the difficulties he has faced recently, as he has had to recover from a pretty major knee injury that was suffered during the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational.
