JitsCast #25 features top American Jiu-Jitsu competitors Elijah Dorsey, right as he’s preparing for one of the toughest tournaments of his career. Not only does Dorsey compete at the highest level in the gi, but he’s also registered some huge wins in no gi as well. He has already won an IBJJF major and hit the podium at another in the gi despite only being promoted to black belt in 2022 and his most impressive title came in 2023, when he won the ADCC North American East Coast Trials by beating multiple ADCC veterans in one of the toughest and biggest divisions available at the tournament.
That superb performance not only brought Dorsey a lot more attention but it also allowed him to compete in the under 77kg division at ADCC 2024. That put Dorsey on the biggest stage in the sport with some of the very best in the world standing alongside him, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Dorsey left as one of the breakout stars at ADCC 2024, as he went 2-2 in an incredibly tough division and finished in fourth place. His run was excellent on paper anyway, but the fact that his two wins came over veteran contender Dante Leon and two-time champion JT Torres made it even more impressive.
We spoke to Dorsey about the early days of his Jiu-Jitsu journey and the moments that made him choose to pursue the sport professionally, before moving on to his biggest matches. Dorsey talked about his ADCC Trials gold medal performance and the subsequent fourth-place finish at ADCC, along with his experience competing in The Crown 2024. He also explained why he thinks gi grappling can be just as popular as no gi grappling, before breaking down his next challenge. Dorsey will be competing in a stacked middleweight grand Prix at BJJ Stars 15, so he broke down his biggest threat snd revealed his opening round match.
