Jessa Khan just put in a great performance at the Southeast Asian Games 2023, where she won both a gold and a silver medal at the tournament. She actually competed in two different events at the SEA Games, both gi and no gi Jiu-Jitsu ne-waza in the 52kg division. She competed in the gi first and managed to come away with a silver medal after submitting three out of her four opponents. Just a few days later she competed in no gi and managed to do one better, taking home a gold medal after again submitting three out of her four opponents.
Khan is no stranger to the competition either, as she also won another gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games back in 2019. This time was a little different as Khan represents Cambodia and previously had to travel to the Phillipines to compete, but Cambodia was the host nation for 2023. Her first gold medal in 2019 came before she was even a BJJ black belt, as she was only promoted by the Mendes brothers in October 2020. She’s been a popular figure in the sport since long before that though, as Khan was one of the top young competitors to develop through the kids program at Art of Jiu-Jitsu.
Since then, she has been competing among the best female grapplers on the planet and has shown that she belongs among them by achieving great some results. Jessa Khan recently came away with a bronze medal at the IBJJF European Championship 2023 and with her recent performance at the Southeast Asian Games, it seems like she’s gearing up for a big year.
Jessa Khan announced the news that she had won both a gold and a silver medal at the Southeast Asian Games 2023 in a recent post to her official Instagram account:
