Jasmine Rocha has just pulled out of her match at the next UFC Fight Pass Invitational event (UFC FPI 11) on short notice, as she has been struck with Ketoacidosis. Rocha was coming towards the end of her weight-cut for the event when things started to go very badly, as she was experiencing ‘nonstop puking and stomach issues’. It’s not uncommon for athletes to experience negative side-effects when cutting weight of course, and several fighters have been hospitalised as a result. Rocha explained that she initially tried to push through this and make it to the scales in order to compete, even coming within 7lbs of the flyweight limit.

She wound up hospitalised with Ketoacidosis, a potentially life-threatening condition if nit treated quickly. The condition is caused when the body is lacking in insulin and it starts to break down fat for energy, releasing ketones into the body. Although it’s more commonly seen in people with Diabetes, it can also happen when people restrict carbohydrate intake to very low levels. It makes perfect sense then that a weight-cut could exacerbate the problem but thankfully, recovery is usually very quick once treatment begins. This means that it’s unlikely this will affect Rocha’s upcoming appearance on the first ever female Polaris Squads event in a month.

While Jasmine Rocha recovers from Ketoacidosis, her withdrawal from the stacked UFC FPI 11 card left her opponent without a match. The promotion have pulled off a minor miracle though, as they’ve managed to find a replacement willing to take on Alex Enriquez on one day’s notice. Top young prospect Shye Lilly has stepped in to take Rocha’s place and although it’s a massive challenge for the 20 year-old brown belt, opportunities like this don’t come around very often. A win over an ADCC veteran like Enriquez is something that would put Lilly’s name on the map and earn her massive opportunities in the future.

Jasmine Rocha shared the news that she was struck with Ketoacidosis forced to withdraw from UFC FPI 11 in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
