The IBJJF South American Championship 2023 took place on September 17th, 2023 and some of the best grapplers from all around the continent traveled to compete at the event. Harryson Pereira managed to win gold in the absolute division but had to settle for a bronze medal at super-heavyweight after Leandro Santos stood on top of the podium. Heavyweight and medium-heavyweight were won by top competitors too, as Vinicius Liberati and Uanderson Ferreira won those divisions respectively. Welerson Goncalves won a tough division at roosterweight but undoubtedly a lot of the attention went to the featherweight division, where Meyram Maquine beat out several top opponents to take home a gold medal.
Some of the best female BJJ black belts competed too, with Jessica Dantas winning the light-featherweight division after a great performance on the mats. There were exciting performances in many women’s weight classes, with Sabrina Gondim, Sabatha Lais, and Amanda Magda standing on top of the lightweight, medium-heavyweight, and heavyweight podiums respectively. In the end it was Brigida Carvalho who impressed the most and walked away with the biggest prize, as she won gold medals in both the middleweight and the absolute divisions.
