The IBJJF Sacramento Open 2025 took place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2025 and there was some serious talent on display in many divisions. The relatively new ATOS black belt Rafael Silveira won the gi absolute, but Wallisson Oliveira stopped him from becoming the double champion by taking home the gold medal at medium-heavyweight over him. Oliveira also returned on the second day, where he won another gold medal in the no gi medium-heavyweight division. He also won a silver medal later that day in the no gi absolute, but it was Joao Nicolite who beat him in the final of that bracket.
Although most of the black belt divisions at the IBJJF Sacramento Open 2025 were relatively small, there was still a few interesting matchups. Featherweight played host to one of them, as Marco Mendes beat Jefferson Fagundes in the only match of the bracket to win gold. The heavyweight division also featured a top contender, as Brea Jiu-Jitsu representative Nolan Stuart stood on top of that podium. The women’s divisions featured quite a few more elite competitors too, and it was Thaynara Victoria who became the gi double champion with a default gold at featherweight and a hard-earned one in the absolute division.
Nadia Frankland had a great performance too, winning gold at medium-heavyweight and a silver in the absolute behind Victoria. The top Australian grappler’s first match in the absolute saw her submit Elizabeth Mitrovic with a flying armbar too, while Mitrovic returned on the second day to win the no gi absolute instead. Mitrovic didn’t have any opponents in her weight class unfortunately, so the absolutes were her only chances for a match. Jaine Fragoso was another big name who made an appearance and although she took a default gold at middleweight in no gi, she won her gi middleweight title the hard way.
