The IBJJF Pan Championship 2022 has come to an end and now that the results are in, a whole new generation of champions has now been crowned. There were several surprises throughout the weekend of grappling action but there were also a number of expected results, most notably that Gabrieli Pessanha continued her dominance of the heavier female divisions by emerging as the tournament’s only double champion. Erich Munis managed to win the male open weightclass but he chose to not compete in the Super Heavyweight division final, allowing Marcus Ribeiro to win gold instead.
As always, there were several more closeouts throughout the tournament as Dimitrius Souza, Sebastian Rodriguez, and Alex Sodre were all able to go home with gold medals without actually fighting their final match. Our pick for male no gi grappler of the year for 2020, Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu, showed that he is still going strong despite being older than any of his counterparts as he took home yet another gold medal in the Ultra Heavyweight division.
Art of Jiu-Jitsu managed some impressive wins as the first black belt to come out of the AOJ kid’s program, Jessa Khan, moved up in weight to Light Featherweight and took home gold while her teammate Tainan Dalpra won gold on his first attempt as a black belt after being promoted on the podium last year. Several other competitors put on a show throughout the week and the full results for the adult black belt divisions can be found below:
