The IBJJF No Gi South American Championship 2024 took place on September 29th, 2024 and some of the best no gi grapplers from all across the continent made the trip to compete. There were no double champions at the event at all, as Vinicius Lessa and Maria Victoria won the men’s and women’s absolute divisions respectively but neither of them could win their weight class. Plenty of other big names stood out when they got to the top of the podium though, particularly in the heavier divisions. Antonio de Padua won gold at ultra-heavyweight, and Elioenai Braz put on a series of great displays in order to emerge victorious in the super-heavyweight division.
Gabriel Brod was another notable name who won his weight class, as he took home gold at heavyweight. Brod was joined by another two top competitors, Ygor Rodrigues and Felipe Machado, who won the middleweight and featherweight divisions respectively. There were far fewer competitors in the women’s divisions, but there was still a handful that stood out. There was only 3 women in the roosterweight division but they were all elite grapplers and in the end it was Shelby Murphey who won the title. Giovanna Jara was the other big name competing at the tournament and she took home the gold medal in the super-heavyweight bracket.
