The IBJJF No Gi South American Championship 2023 took place on October 15th, 2023 and some of the best grapplers from across the continent competed against one another. Several elite no gi competitors managed to come out on top in their respective divisions, but Maria Vicentini was the only black belt who managed to leave the venue with two gold medals after winning both heavyweight and the absolute. She even had a tough final match in the absolute against the middleweight champion Julia Boscher, but even she couldn’t stop Vicentini. Jessica Dantas stood on the third spot of the absolute podium, a very impressive feat considering the fact that she was the lightest champion, winning gold at light-featherweight.
Although there was no male double champion, Pedro Alex emerged victorious in the absolute division. It was a nice moment of redemption for him after he settled for a bronze medal in the ultra-heavyweight division, as he beat the gold medalist Wallace Costa in the absolute final. There were impressive performances everywhere really, as Elioenai Braz won the super-heavyweight division and Alexandre De Jesus won the middleweight division. In an surprising turn of events, David Weintraub made the journey down and took home a gold medal at featherweight.
