The IBJJF Nashville Spring Open 2024 took place on April 13th and 14th, 2024 and there was quite a few big names competing in different weight classes at the event. Inacio Santos put on a series of flawless performances over the course of the weekend and he left with an incredible four gold medals. Not only did he win the both the gi and no gi ultra-heavyweight divisions but he also won both of the absolute divisions as well. Mateus Rodrigues was in good form in the gi, winning the heavyweight division and getting a silver medal in the absolute behind Santos.
The bronze medalist was Carlos ‘Bebeto’ Oliveira, an impressive feat considering the fact that he had just come off winning a silver medal at light-featherweight. The bronze medalist in the no gi absolute division was Clay Mayfield and he also finished the weekend with more than one medal, as he won gold at medium-heavyweight in both gi and no gi. Emilio Hernandez stepped up to the middleweight division to get some no gi matches and managed to win a gold medal despite the size difference, but he had to settle for a silver medal in the gi featherweight division the day before.
Jessica Crane also left the IBJJF Nashville Spring Open 2024 with four gold medals after winning both the featherweight and absolute divisions in the gi, before winning the no gi editions by default. That was because she was the only female black belt signed up for the adult no gi divisions, but she did have some game opponents in the gi on the first day. The podium of the gi featherweight division in particular was a very impressive lineup, as Emily Nicholson occupied the second position and the bronze medal spot was taken by Brenda Wunner and Maria ‘Duda’ Tozoni.
